Former Navy demolition expert Peter Carew had put his troubled past behind and found anonymity and peace on the Caribbean island of St. Gregory. At 29 he’s a partner with crusty seadog Mitch Danks in a successful marine repair business. With an agreeable climate, an abundance of pretty girls and cheap booze, life for Carew is very sweet . . . until the Albatross slips silently into Simpson Bay one moonless evening. Beneath the mahogany skin of this rich man’s toy lies a technological marvel of sat nav and comms equipment with a sickbay designed for the special needs of its lone, reluctant passenger. Virtually self-sufficient, it has been at sea for more than a year, out of sight of land and prying eyes. But emergency repairs have forced it to shore. The ship’s head honcho, Frank Sharp, is short-tempered, devious and single-minded in the extreme. He has enough money and nerve to get what he wants and he wants his ship gone now. Money talks, so Carew reluctantly goes ahead with the repair job but he and the bellicose Sharp are instant antagonists; Carew will not be bullied; Sharp will not be denied his way. Meanwhile a band of modern-day pirates sets into motion a series of events that sucks Carew into a vortex of murder and international intrigue when he finds he holds a man’s life in his hands - a life he will eventually regret saving.
