Synopsis

This story is about a family, Jim and Fran Robert and their daughter Debbie who live in Saudi Arabia. Taking a vacation they’ve left their Debbie with friends while they were away in Thailand. They wake to find the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been overthrown by a Al Quada with the intent restore the Kingdom to its Islamic roots and for the protection of the holy places of Mecca and Median. Jim and Fran were frantic to find out the status of Debbie and to get her back as soon as possible. With the takeover all westerners were banned from the Kingdom so it was not possible for Jim and Fran to return to collect their daughter and their personal goods. The word was out that all westerners in the Kingdom were to be evicted on very short notice. Because of an Islamic rule that female children can only travel on the passport of their father Debbie was not evicted with the rest of the western nationals. Jim and Fran must solicit the help of the US Government and US Government agencies for help in the recovery of Debbie. Because the new Islamic Government of Arabia had not declared its political leanings the United Stated desires not to make waves and not push the new government in what the US perceived to be the wrong direction. Approaching the US Military the Roberts were rebuffed due to an executive order that prohibited any military activity that might spark conflict with the new Arabian Government. The US Military leadership did offer constructive advice regarding a potential rescue by Jim Roberts himself. Ultimately, Jim and Fran plan and execute their own rescue attempt, aided by a local Arab man, recommended by the US Military commander.

The author spent many years living in the Middle East, including years in Jeddah and in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia where he traveled extensively throughout the Kingdom In planning for this book he took on the appearance of an Arab and made the trip from Yanbu to Aqaba, Jordan and returned, noting the environmental conditions that Jim Robert's would be subjected too if the theme of the book ever became reality. Though he was accepted as a fellow Arab up to the point where conversation was necessary it was obvious that if Jim Robert's were to duplicate this trip he would have to have a local representative who spoke the language. During this trip he took copious notes of what he saw in the terrain, the dwellings and the dress of the people. These notes were used to provide the descriptive details in this book. The miracles of living in Saudi Arabia continued to amaze the author throughout his stay in country. While many might find reason not to live there the Author categorized this as another adventure in a interesting location. The Author has had many similar adventures from his assignments in Saudi Arabia, Germany, Argentina, China, the Oil Fields in Alaska, Kuwait and has a picture taken of him sitting on Sadam Hussein’s throne in Baghdad. It was obvious to the author that anyone attempting any type incursion into Arabia must have a total understanding of the personalities, policies, politics and social structure of the Arab population in the areas through which he would pass. This could be obtained through research, interviews and on hand observations of the local population. Again though, even with total knowledge one could not hope to successfully carry out an intervention without the support of a local collaborator. Several times during his stay in Saudi Arabia he and his wife went out on vacation trips and left their daughter in country with friends. In all cases this made them feel quite uneasy but fortunately, no situations arose that caused any problems. This concern, however, led to the formulation of the story of this book. The author would like to note that he has tremendous admiration for the people of Saudi Arabia and is extremely proud of their accomplishments politically, domestically, economically and militarily. He sincerely hopes that no situation ever occurs that would in any way bring any part of this book into reality.
