About the Author Victoria Ann Baker is a young wife and mother from a small Ohio town. Challenged with vision problems and other disabilities, she uses her computer and her wits in an ongoing search for her biological family. The search began when, as a child, she uncovered truths about her disabilities. It has continued through three more decades of discovery, resulting in finding many family members, but more importantly, her true identity. “Knowledge and formal education,” she decided, “is the best opportunity for the realization of my goals and dreams.” She completed an Associates degree and obtained a Regents Bachelor of Arts degree from Marshall University. Upon completion she earned a Master’s degree in Communication Studies in 2006. Following the birth of her son, diagnosed with autism, she also completed extensive graduate coursework in the field of autism. In addition to developing a successful career in public speaking, tutoring, and academic advisory services for nontraditional students, she has authored a course in communications as related to disability issues. She currently owns Picket Fence Dreams, a small business offering motivational and educational public speaking. Teaching and training are her passion. She loves to share her information and positive spirit with others. As a mother of a teenager with autism, she shares her expertise through public lectures and serving various organizations. Appointed to the Ohio Governors Council on People with Disabilities, she also serves as an ADA Advisory Council member to the Secretary of State's office. Most recently, she was appointed to the State Advisory Panel for Exceptional Children (SAPEC), and served a three year governor appointed term on the Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council. She serves on the Ohio Home Choice Advisory Council. She also advocates and volunteers with organizations that promote and educate others about Adoptee Rights. Victoria says, “I enjoy my advocacy and leadership roles on these commissions and councils. It is also my privilege to serve others in various prison and church ministries.” She sums up her journey — and her life thus far — like this: “My dream is finally a reality!”
