The author is a Professor of Surgery with 30 years of clinical experience in the management of patients with colorectal and anal cancer. He is also an academic with over 170 international published papers largely in the field of colorectal surgery and has edited 6 major colorectal textbooks. He has received prior international teaching awards and is a coeditor of a major European international colorectal journal, Techniques in Coloproctology.
