"Talks with Crows" is Book Two in "The Next American Hero Series." It is a fictionalized account of the career of Tony Wallace, a remarkable prosecutor whose skills and courage, having won convictions in all of the 173 murder cases he prosecuted, lead him to the door of the Montana governor's office, and whose penchant for the risky combination of Jack Daniels and late night bar conquests, his stress relievers of choice, led to a roller coaster life and a series of adventures that demanded chronicling. In "Talks with Crows," Tony has too much on his plate: the town's prominent lawyer shot dead; a dirty senator taking bribes to block a killer's extradition back to Montana; an up-coming gubernatorial campaign; and a wife and son who need him at home. "How can I keep everybody happy?" he asks his running partner, retired sheriff Timber McCaw. "You can't," Timber counsels. "There's no blanket big enough to keep all those toes warm. You have to decide who and what you care about." See who gets the blanket and who gets the cold toes.

Steve Buttress did his time in a suit and tie, working with four governors as his community and economic development career spanned the continent; from Montana to Florida, Nebraska to Delaware, Ohio to Oklahoma. The governors weren't nearly as much fun as some of the characters he met along the trail. Steve now writes novels, non-fiction, and children's books from his retreat in the Black Hills of South Dakota, and from his home in central Nebraska.
