Synopsis

As I Recall is filled with 90 years of memories from the author’s life. An oh, what a life it’s been! Douglas Barman grew up in the Depression on a farm and in East St. Louis. Like many young men of his era, he served in the Army months after graduating from high school. Private Barman was in the Pacific Theatre during WWII as a machine gunner and barely escaped what was planned to be the largest amphibious assault. After he received his degree in geophysics, he spent his entire career with Texaco exploring for oil primarily in California and the Arctic. Together with his wife, Betsy, he raised seven children and had incredible experiences from skiing in the Alps to walking a portion of the Great Wall of China to dining with a future president to the United States.
