Synopsis

This is a romantic novel involving an American Architect who is sent to Indonesia to supervise the construction of a highrise office building in Jakarta. He comes to admire the city and then falls in love with an Indonesian girl. He travels around the country to Bali and many other places while his building is slowly being constructed. But then his life suffers from a world-wide recession, shoddy workmanship on his highrise, and the building owners blaming him for all the problems. His love’s former husband, meanwhile, claims that she is still married to him. After suffering through many problems, they finally get married and honeymoon in Hawaii. But the bride is then kidnapped, and during the rescue operation they are struck by a gigantic tsunami. Finally, the couple has a suspenseful time as they try to depart from Jakarta,

Walter John Trowbridge graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, in Architecture in 1960, and was a licensed Architect in California, Nevada, Illinois, Maryland, and Guam. During his active years, he lived and worked in San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas. In addition, he traveled extensively overseas, and in the process also lived and worked in London, Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Dar-es-Salam (East Africa), Chennai (India), Jakarta (Indonesia), Guam, and Hawaii. Mr Trowbridge retired in 2010 in Henderson, Nevada, and began to write romantic novels. These works are largely based on his personal experiences, but with the romantic affairs being purely fictional. He has published “Admiral Darling”, a World War Two novel based on his experiences in the Philippines and Indonesia; “Professor Darling”, based on his life in San Francisco, Berkeley, and at Cal; “Architect Darling”, based on his two years of experience working in East Africa, including on safaris and climbing Mt Kilimanjaro; “Engineer Darling”, based on his many years in Saudi Arabia; and finally “General Darling” based on his experiences hosteling in Scandinavia and traveling throughout Europe many times. "Supervisor Darling" is based on his three years living in Indonesia.
