Jody Robert McFerren is an artist, author and cook that currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia. He was born in a small, farm-town in Pennsylvania called Waynesboro. He graduated from high school in 1992 and received an art degree from "The Art Institute of Pittsburgh" in 1995. In 1996, he moved to Decatur, Georgia with two of his high school friends for the "Olympic Games". While living in Atlanta, he became a graphic designer for companies that included "Busch Gardens", "Cartoon Network" and "PEZ Candy". McFerren started his own graphic design business and created logos and marketing materials for local businesses. In 1998, McFerren was hired as the Art Director for "The Community Review/Journal" and "The Story" newspapers. He first became a published author by writing hundreds of articles for many print magazines and newspapers and even had his own entertainment and restaurant column called "HOTPlate", which had over 50,000 weekly readers. McFerren is also an accomplished fine artist and has had dozens of art shows and gallery exhibitions around the Atlanta area. In 2004, McFerren changed careers and focused on his love of food and became the co-owner of a local, Decatur, Georgia restaurant that specialized in Southern Comfort food, called "Our Way Cafe". During that time, he started a catering business within the company called "Our Way Catering" that prepared upscale, southern cuisine at affordable prices. McFerren has catered hundreds of events around the Atlanta area including wedding receptions, private parties and corporate events. In 2010, the restaurant burned down and he decided to sell his partnership to focus completely on his writing his cookbooks. "FundaMENUS - An Upscale Approach to Affordable Entertaining" is McFerren's first published cookbook. His first book, "Back In St. Olaf - An Illustrated Encyclopedia of Stories, Idiotic Sayings & Home Cookery," - based entirely off of "Rose Nylund", the character that actress, "Betty White" made famous on the sitcom, "The Golden Girls" - is currently seeking a publishing deal.
