Synopsis

Assembly line workers came out of the plants and into the classrooms in droves during the Great Recession. If you think their experience at community and technical colleges is just like everyone else's, you would be mistaken. This is a human interest story, but, it's implications are great for this country’s economic development. The stories come from three Midwest community and technical colleges and show how they responded to massive job losses in their district. The author captures the voice of not only those who left the assembly line, but those who met, counseled, and taught them along the way. It is the inside story of the people who feel the brunt of the great economic change taking place in America.
