Synopsis

It was love at first date, but the stars in their eyes didn’t fade by morning light. Instead, the love story lasted for nearly 62 years. His journey took him through World War II’s Battle of the Bulge, college and career. Hers moved from theory in the halls of learning to life with a family. Together they shared misadventures in the mid-twentieth century years when life was so different from today — a crazy landlady, a falling ceiling, a most unusual mortgage, a variety of interesting neighbors, raising five children together — and “equably shared” retirement years. She said, “I love you so much!” He answered, “I love you MORE!”

À propos de l?auteur

Bea’s life has called on depths of energy she didn’t know she possessed, creativity, fortitude, willingness to learn. She is impelled to share her education at the College of Life, her ride on this speeding toboggan, to which she plans to cling ‘til she crashes through the Golden Gates breathless from exertion, looking forward with anticipation to her next new experience! The wonderful love-story in which she matured, child-rearing, extricating herself from household disasters, an enlarging family, new and old friends, world travel, winters in a warm state, summers in Michigan, new experiences are all part of Bea’s busy life. The author wrote from the age of eight, was thrilled– in her 20’s - to have an anecdote published in Reader’s Digest American and British editions. In 1981, Bea planned to self-publish an embroidery instruction book, but cancelled printing on learning that a first-run was 5000 copies. Her husband’s pride in her efforts convinced her she could certainly sell that many – she simply needed to learn how! Defying “common knowledge” that embroidery books have only an 18-month shelf-life, Bea sold all copies – over a 20-year-span. Learning that her old book was still selling on-line, she is now preparing an enhanced second edition. Her children’s and grandchildren’s interest in the family tales she told resulted in her taking time out to pen “Warm Memories of Cold Spring”, a narrative of how a sheltered, academically-inclined only-child jumped willy-nilly onto the fast-moving toboggan of matrimony and a large family. She didn’t know what a ride she was in for! Lucky to have married a very good man, the events and adventures they lived through in the post-World War II era molded her into a totally different person than she might have been had she followed her original career plans. In her 86th year, she is hurrying to finish the second embroidery book to publish three more books already-formed in her head. One deals with her own journey through widowhood, the second is the tale of her courageous grandmother’s remarkably adventurous life, the third is about “those wonderful Depression-era years”, when she never knew she was poor since she was so rich in family love. With superannuated ancestors, she expects to beat actuarial odds to complete them all!
