At almost 80 years of age, Betsy Bragg skis with her children and grandchildren, swims, bikes, kayaks and practices yoga. What does she attribute to this robust lifestyle? Only seven years ago, in 2006, she attended the Hippocrates Health Institute's three-week "Change Your Life" program. Through its holistic dietary, exercise, education, therapeutic programs and loving atmosphere, she overcame life-long persistent complaints of compulsive overeating, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), crippling arthritis and Excessive Daytime Sleeping disorder (EDS). Embracing an alkaline diet which includes drinking green juices and eating lots of leafy green vegetables, she now sleeps through the night without pain and is filled with energy during the day. Impressed with the change in her life, Betsy returned to the Hippocrates Health Institute and completed their Health Educator program. Today she is the Executive Director of Optimum Health Solution, a non-profit organization devoted to "feeding our children a healthy future." Their mission is to eliminate obesity, chronic disease and malnutrition through education and advocacy of healthy living. Along with her "Real Kids Real Food" after-school program, Betsy teaches a popular course quarterly called Eat to Thrive 10 weeks to Life Long Healthy Habits and Healthy Living which uses her book, "Eat to Thrive” as a guide. Like many Americans, Betsy Bragg's upbringing reinforced the myth that comfort food equals love and she found herself addicted to sugar, wheat and fat, and later she was also addicted to alcohol and pills. Completely drug- and medication-free, she lovingly attributes her healthy successes to a 12-step AA program and her Higher Power, both reinforced by the Hippocrates philosophy that promotes a holistic and comprehensive approach encompassing the spiritual, emotional, mental, nutritional, elimination and exercising aspects of health. Betsy holds Master's degrees in education, counseling, and administration of non-profits. She has taught and traveled extensively, and brings her wealth of experience to her current writings and teachings in the world of holistic health. The near-octogenarian says that every day she is blessed to be doing her life's work—healing herself and healing the planet through the Hippocrates Approach to Optimum health, and hopes that those lives she's touched, in turn, touch other lives, thus working in concert to make the world a better place
