In this collection of homespun wisdom the author has presented a sampling of some 70 years of meaningful incidents. From his earliest fishing in his father's pond through many years of self-employment over much of the west, he has shown us in a most delightful way that there is always a lesson to be learned from the creatures around us. All the happenings related are true and they bring the reader to realize that nothing is truly incidental in our lives but that we are expected to gain something in all we experience wherever we go.

Dalan Smith was raised on a small Idaho farm where he learned the value of work as well as education. Hard work carried over into his schooling, where his degree was earned while working as well as beginning a family. These multi-tasking habits stimulated forty-plus years of self-employment supplemented by jobs in the corporate world as needs required. He developed a successful real estate brokerage with multiple offices and an attached home-building business while emphasizing to his associates the importance of developing their talents with benefits to the customer being of utmost importance. Writing became a major part of life rather than a hobby after a heart surgery in 2007 forced a sale of businesses and refocused efforts to expand the minds and lives of those around him. Dalan and his wife, Judy, have lived in several locations in Idaho, California, Wyoming and Colorado, many of which enter into the events of this collection. At the time of this writing they reside in Emmett, Idaho. The majority of his continuing efforts to encourage the building of self-confidence and the natural abilities of those around him are primarily directed through his church and supplemented by occasional mailings to those he "adopts."
