Synopsis

Coining the term Poemoir to describe her book, prize-winning author JoAnne Bauer tells the stories of her life in this two-volume collection of narrative and lyric richness. Her past surfaces deftly, and often humorously, through complex and rich layers of memories and imagistic brilliance. In five sections, we travel with her -from a withdrawn and sullen childhood, into armored, brash feminism of young adulthood, and past the twists and turns of loves' vicissitudes. Then we emerge into raucous good-natured fun, transformed by earned wisdom and ready to reckon with mortality's abrupt and revealed shortcomings. This ekphrastic project provides us thought-enriching overlays and echoings, as Bauer references work of master artists, musicians, philosophers and other literary folk, as well as offering up her original mixed media collages and altered photographs. From the immediacy of captured details, her personal and unique path flowers into universal revelations about a woman's life well lived.
