This booklet is about Sprotbrough Hall, one of Doncaster’s most beautiful houses, which was razed to the ground some 40 years ago. A full historical account of Sprotbrough Hall will never be completed. Many facts are unobtainable, for very little documentary evidence in respect of the house remains today. Yet, although this house no longer exists, I do not consider a place of such architectural value should be left unrecorded to drift further into a clouded past. I know that today the Hall is often mentioned in Sprotbrough, and odd photographs and postcards may still be seen. This is my brief record and contribution towards preserving details of a mansion that I never saw. It is not a history, but merely an architectural account of what there once was, and what little there now remains. - Gordon Smith.
