The Viking Runes explores the world of the ancient Norse rune symbols used in divination, ritual practices, everyday inscriptions and carved memorials. With reference to early Nordic and Celtic history, archaeology, myth and saga, the book covers the origins of the runes, the Elder and Viking futharks, and the use of runes and ogam characters in the Norse Gaelic areas of Scotland, Ireland and the Isles. Uncover the mystery of rune inscriptions, secret codes, runic charms and spells, how to carve the runes and how to read them. Learn about the Norse gods and land spirits, the practices of shape-changing, galdrar, spá and seiðr, and the down to earth wisdom found in Old Norse verse. Recommended reading for all those wishing to expand their knowledge of runes, divination, and heathen magical practices.
