“Finding the Inward Path” - The author’s hypothesis is that Jesus came not to build a church but to build an earthly kingdom. He asserts that in the modern world, the internal life of the Spirit has been replaced by the externals of religious rituals, doctrines, rules, and hierarchies. “For many of the faithful, church might have been a diversion, a detour, perhaps even an impediment toward inward spiritual growth.” Believing that the kingdom of heaven is within, the author calls upon those who are ready and open to it to awaken to a higher level of consciousness in order to experience a true inner transformation of the heart..

ABOUT THE AUTHOR – Fredric A. Voto Raised in a small, ethnically mixed, predominately Catholic neighborhood on the outskirts of Boston, the author was greatly influenced by the Catholic Church. He attended Saint Patrick’s Grammar School from grades five through eight where he was taught by the Sisters of Charity. The author attended Boston College High School where he received a classical education from the Jesuits. Upon graduation in 1961, he attended Boston College, a university also run by the Jesuits. He studied Theology and Philosophy for four years and later went on to receive a Master’s Degree from Boston College School of Management. He served as a rifle platoon leader with the 25th Infantry Division based in Cu Chi, Vietnam. (1966 -1967) The death and destruction and personal loss he experienced in Vietnam opened his eyes to the lack of reverence for life and the often complete disregard for others and their property as well as the killing of thousands of innocent people; a consequence of political arrogance and exaggerated fear of the spread of communism. This contributed in large part to his subsequent search for a deeper meaning to life and death within his own Catholic faith and recently led him to the self-study of Buddhism. The seed to write this book, entitled, “FINDING THE INWARD PATH”, was sown soon after his first retreat at “The Holy Family Retreat House” in West Hartford, Connecticut in November of 2008. “I find the blending of these two rich faith traditions complementary and not at all conflicting. If anything, Buddhism has helped me to reach deeper into my own Catholic roots.” Now retired, he lives with his wife, Helene, in Connecticut. He hopes to continue writing in order to invite others who wish to experience a personal and inward transformation and to welcome all who desire to embrace a life of loving-kindness, humility, mercy, forgiveness, holiness and deep compassion.
