On March 11, 2002, in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, fourteen girls were locked inside of a burning school building by the religious police because the girls were not wearing garments that covered their heads. All of the girls died in the fire. This incident drove author Joe McLaughlin to write Search for Unity, a novel which explores why people kill each other in the name of God and what can be done to stop it.
