What are the topics you were cautioned to avoid in polite conversation? Why? What are the topics that are most likely to stir heated passion in conversation? How are the topics related? The fact is well established in the scientific community that any theory too far from the norm will be castigated and difficult to publish. But, publishing is an absolute requirement for survival in the academic research community. Even more so in the philosophical and theological communities, any significant deviation is labeled as heresy. Fascinatingly, heresy in one generation tends to be accepted technology within two decades. So, was the idea heresy or recalcitrance to acceptance? Following well-established principles, the belief tendencies across science, philosophy, and theology can be grouped together into three categories. The relational tendency compares everything to himself and his experience. This group makes up the vast majority of people. The rational tendency compares everything to reason and laws of nature. This group makes up about one standard deviation of the population. The maverick tendency compares every thing to the laws of nature but perceives there is a transcending element. This limited group is only about 1% of the population, but their decisions impact the remainder of the world often for generations. He is a commercial pilot, is a ham radio Extra Class operator, has a commercial radiotelephone license, and is a licensed electrical contractor. He is a conservationist, who enjoys the family ranch and operating the heavy equipment. Professional recognition includes Life Fellow-IEEE, Life Fellow-ACFEI, Diplomate-ABFET, Life Sr. Member-SPE, Certified Homeland Security, Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator, Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator, and Kaufmann Medal by IEEE. Dr. Durham is acclaimed in Who’s Who of the Petroleum and Chemical Industry and Who’s Who of American Teachers. Honorary recognition includes Phi Kappa Phi, Tau Beta Pi, and Eta Kappa Nu. He has published over 150 papers and articles and has authored 14 books on such diverse topics as science & engineering, economics & personal development, as well as philosophy & theology.
