During my business life i progressed from office boy with a firm of estate agents to managing director of a company quoted on the London Stock Exchange. I never had to apply for a job - I was always offered the next step up the ladder - generally with people I knew and realised that I could take on greater responsibilities. This was a splendid way of progressing as my business life was working with, or close to, friends. My book on promotion is based on my own (successful) experiences. I am not an academic writing for a living; I am a business man who is passing on the way to promotion purely and simply to help others. So, read the book knowing that you are reading the words of someone who knows his subject. Boastful? Yes, of course, but true.
