The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1990 gave God's people an historic moment to reach Central Asian Muslims with the Gospel of Jesus the Messiah. Joining others from around the world, James Wright and his family responded to the opportunity and moved into rural Kazakhstan, a mysterious and boundless land where Silk Road caravans once traversed and immense herds of sheep grazed under the watchful eye of their Kazakh shepherds. Fields of Gold tells the story of the remarkable beginnings of the Kazakh church in southern Kazakhstan. Working to introduce the good news of the Messiah Jesus in the Central Asian context, the church-planting team learned many valuable lessons about living as witnesses among an unreached people. They encountered hardship and suffering in one of the most isolated places on earth where Communists exiled Alexander Solzhenitsyn and many other religious dissidents in the Gulag Archipelago, but through it all God brought Muslims to Jesus and matured those through whom he worked. "Fields of Gold is a book about the great things God is doing among the Muslim Kazakh of Central Asia. Written through the prism of personal pilgrimage, this book is interlaced with stirring stories, interesting cultural insights, painful trials and exciting breakthroughs. It reminds me of 2 Corinthians 4:7, 'We have this treasure in earthen vessels so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves.'"
