This is an updated version of the first of a series of incredible boxing memoirs by Decatur Boxing Club’s own Xavier Biggs. The Sweet Sucker Punch tells real behind-the-scenes stories of Xavier's experiences with some of the greatest fighters in boxing history, including his brother, Tyrell Biggs, the first Super Heavyweight Olympic Boxer ever to win the gold medal in this category. These are also awe-inspiring stories of personal triumph that culminates from one's ability to call up unbeatable will when least expected to overthrow some of life's unmitigated adversities.

An ex-professional boxer from Philadelphia’s highly cultured fight scene, Xavier Biggs pursued a career in boxing to rehabilitate his life from the effects of growing up on the hard streets of Philadelphia. He met with major frustration after turning down a contract proposal from a local promoter, which actually turned out to be a great learning experience that helped qualify him to accompany his younger brother “Tyrell” in his quest to capture the world heavyweight championship title after winning the gold medal in the first ever super heavyweight division in the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. While Xavier was in the training camp, his mind was like a sponge soaking up every drop of boxing knowledge he could absorb from the experts. He also savored associations and experiences with world champions and world-class boxers of this era. Xavier eventually moved to Atlanta and utilized his acquired business acumen to open 5 boxing gyms, pioneered a successful boxing fitness program, and helped several amateur and professional fighters, some of which went on to become division champions. Currently, Xavier is training yet another iconic figure, Grammy-award winning recording artist, Usher, who is preparing to play boxing great Sugar Ray Leonard in the upcoming movie production Hands of Stone, the story of Roberto Duran.
