Since 1972, Harry Gamboa Jr. has been actively creating works in various media/forms that document and interpret the contemporary urban Chicano experience. He co-founded Asco (Spanish for nausea) 1972-1987, the East L.A. conceptual-performance art group. He founded Virtual Vérité, an ensemble performance troupe in 2005. He is a member of the faculty at California Institute of the Arts, School of Art, Program in Photography and Media. He also lectures for Chicana/o Studies Department, CSU Northridge. He has delivered artist talks at: Smithsonian American Art Museum, Harvard University; Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado"La Esmeralda", Mexico City, and Universiteit Antwerpen, Belgium. A permanent collection of his media works/papers has been established and archived at Stanford University (Special Collections: Mexican American Manuscript Collections, Harry Gamboa Jr. Papers, 1968-2008).
