It can also be used independently of the textbook, since it contains the statements of definitions and theorems from the text. It contains over 600 problems on groups, rings, and fields; more than 300 have detailed solutions. It is not a solutions manual for the exercises in the text, since it contains entirely new problems. The author's goal is to teach by example, by writing out solutions to problems that help to explain the theory. Many comments have also been included, to put the problems into perspective.
