Synopsis

In Social Media and the Law: A Practical Guide for Educational Leaders, Dr. Jasmine Renner engages educational leaders, faculty, administrators and students about the legal implications of their use of social networking sites (SNS) and how they can move beyond mere defensive mechanisms when confronted with legal challenges, to proactive measures and initiatives that curb or reduce legal liabilities. She challenges educators and leaders to become responsive and proactive leaders who understand the legal dimensions and implications of social networking (SN) as a profound strategic activity that engages the full organization, school, college or university. This book provide practical guidelines for educators as they navigate the daily challenges of using social media and social networking platforms. Who is responsible when one’s privacy is violated through social media or networking sites? How can social media tools be used to gather information and increase students’ learning? How do educational leaders respond to the legal challenges arising as a result of the use of social networking? How do educators ensure that their organizations, schools, universities or colleges are achieving their missions without unduly restricting the constitutional rights and personal freedoms and privacy of their faculty and students on social networking sites? These questions and more are addressed in this volume.
