Synopsis

With timely and insightful analysis, Mr. Phillip D. Taylor, MS ED reveals what every job seeker or career changer needs to know about himself or herself in relation to this economy and the outlook on 90% of all career options. Self-knowledge, such as personality type, strengths, weaknesses, and personal history, combine with an outline of the current structure of the labor market to yield appropriate and sound career decisions. Ideal for college students and their high school graduate peers, this book considers career pathways not always taken seriously, such as The Fast-Food Way and The Garbageman's Credo, but are viable ways of making a living nonetheless.. The history of the American Dream is given along with how it has changed over the years and what it means today. A lively discussion reveals not only why the rich are rich, but also, why the poor remain poor. Career, personality, and motivational theories help the reader understand the many ways these synergize to help form a meaningful and enjoyable working life. Later chapters discuss goal setting and attainment, how to job search, how to write a resume, including the Cogentive and the Unusual styles invented by the author. This treatise is full of self-help surveys and inspirational quotes to help spark the idea that will become your life's work. Henry David Thoreau said, "Live the life you have imagined." Mr. Taylor says something equally engaging, "Live the life only you can live." Doing both of these leads the reader to a more successful and fulfilling life since we all must learn "to labor and to wait."
