À propos de l'auteur

About the scribe: Laurel Dean has an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of California, Riverside. She has just completed a book on the WWII WACs (Women’s Army Corps) and is currently working on a young adult novel about a bearded dragon super-hero. About the artist: Jan Stamm has a background in graphic design, illustration and fine art. She focused on art and illustration in studies at Immaculate Heart College and the Art Center College of Design. Her illustrations and paintings are represented nationally. About illustrating these Aesop’s fables - “I am intrigued by narrative and symbolic imagery as well as nature and the challenges presented in painting them. The ancient Aesop’s fables are interesting in that many of the moral sayings found in the stories have traveled through centuries and are still very familiar and applicable today. The fables were chosen, some for their familiarity and some for an attraction to the particular animals. These were also among those with less obscure messages and those without violence! The animals are portrayed much as they appear in nature, rather than as more cartoonish or anthropomorphic. In painting in oil, as I do, it was also important to create cohesive compositions which work in oil, focusing on color and suggesting the essence of the fable rather than a completely literal translation.”
