This book is Evelyn Rauch's personal account of her mother, Steffi's tragic life as a Holocaust survivor. Evelyn's deep love for her mother had always been overshadowed by her resentment over their troubled relationship. After Steffi's sudden death, Evelyn uncovers an incredible story that had been hidden from her for more than fifty years. Evelyn then takes the reader on a sacred journey of discovery as she unravels the mystery of her mother's past. Through her persistent quest to find out the truth, she learns the details surrounding the deep bond that formed between her mother and grandmother. A bond that proved critical to their survival during the most horrific time in recent history. Had Evelyn known more about her mother's past while she was still alive their relationship might have been all together different. "Surviving Steffi" is a story of love, conflict, tragedy and ultimately forgiveness. It will captivate readers from the first page as they join Evelyn on her pilgrimage for enlightenment. Evelyn's story will pull at your heart strings and help you look beyond the obvious with a new perspective.

Evelyn Rauch is a second generation survivor. Her parents escaped Nazi Germany before World War II began. Evelyn grew up feeling different from her peers but never new quite why. Only after her mother's death did it become clear why her home was different than her classmates and friends. She has dedicated herself to promoting tolerance by volunteering her time as a committee member of the Institute for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Raritan Valley Community College of New Jersey. She has led discussion groups on the subject of the Holocaust. Evelyn wrote this book as a tribute to her mother and grandmother and those that went on living and struggled to survive the Holocaust. Evelyn wrote "Surviving Steffi" to create a wider understanding of why relationships with parents are sometimes difficult. Her hope is that the reader will be inspired to look deeper into the reasons behind their own troubled relationships. Evelyn is a mother and grandmother. She started her own design firm and has been an interior designer for thirty years. She is now pursuing her life long passion of painting and writing.
