Synopsis

Innovation – the creation of economic and social value with new ideas – is needed more today than ever. If scientists and engineers in companies, universities, government laboratories and research institutes are to drive innovation they need to understand the process of generating and shaping early stage ideas. This handbook has been prepared to take what has become a buzzword – innovation - and make it operational. It provides practical guidance for idea generation, idea screening, and the key element of the innovation cycle, the feasibility study. Feasibility studies are data-based analyses of new ideas, which focus on seminal market, technical and financial potential. They encourage iteration of ideas, and intentional decision-making about which projects look to be the most promising and warrant further investment.
