Synopsis

After having devoted many years of my life to teaching, I came to a surprising conclusion that a large portion of even high-school students still struggle with basic operations on fractions. Naturally, I then started to ponder the reasons for this state of affairs while searching for solutions during the many of our study sessions. It is an undeniable fact that lack of such basic skills greatly reduces any possible progress towards mastering mathematics, and is the chief reason behind so many future problems with the subject. Learning mathematics, as any of the hard sciences, is a continuous process, and any previous shortcomings frequently cause discouragement, misunderstanding and in many cases loss of future earning potential. However, getting back to fractions, in my view the most crucial aspect necessary for the success is to study them in this exact simplification, multiplication, division, addition and finally subtraction. Additionally, for such young students, learning through actual practice is from my experience the most effective and long-lasting method of study. Consequently, I placed 200 examples and 600 problems to solve, with solved examples on the left and analogous problems on the right. I am certain that after thorough studying of this book, this pesky fraction problem will go away once and for all, which I, as author, wish to all of my readers.
