I found it to be easy to understand and the step by step helped a lot to identify things I might not have thought would be an obstacle to healing. She truly understands.” Melody, a survivor of sexual abuse “The author, Janet Black, is a leader who, drawing on her own steps to recovery, has created a roadmap for survivors of sexual abuse. She is living proof that one can emerge from the damp and dark swamp of despair to thrive in the sunshine, creating a happy life of her choosing. She doesn't sugar coat the hard work that it takes to recover and provides a workbook format to lead the way for those courageous enough to make the journey.” Toni, survivor of non-sexual abuse “Janet has turned what is obviously a painful past, into what could be a bright future for sexual abuse survivors. A must read for victims, and their families and friends!” Bruce Rasmussen, author and survivor "Janet offers her readers a helpful way to process their experience with abuse. Her honest attempt to integrate her own experience into this process will enable the reader to trust that she understands what they have gone through”. Bunk Spann, educator

Janet has been a registered nurse for over 30 years and has worked primarily in the areas of community health and both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric nursing with experience in mental health and chemical dependency. She then went on to become a nurse practitioner. She has always been interested in patient education and counseling and since retiring from active practice, she has turned her attention to writing and volunteer work. It was as part of her own recovery from sexual abuse, that she began writing about sexual abuse. While working in an adolescent psychiatric unit with teen survivors she found that there were no really great resources available for them. She decided to create a book suitable for teens and adults in a simple easy-to-use workbook format. Since retirement, she has completely revised and expanded the book into its current form and has made it available to help other survivors.
