An enduring affection for A Tale of Two Cities, which sparked her lifelong interest in the French Revolution when she was still in her teens, led Susanne Alleyn to write her debut novel, A Far Better Rest, the reimagining of Dickens’s novel from Sydney Carton’s point of view. Susanne’s other works of fiction and nonfiction include The Executioner's Heir, a novel about Charles-Henri Sanson, the real-life executioner of Paris before and during the French Revolution; the Aristide Ravel historical mystery series, set in 1780s–90s Paris; and the nonfiction guide Medieval Underpants and Other Blunders: A Writer’s (and Editor’s) Guide to Keeping Historical Fiction Free of Common Anachronisms, Errors, and Myths.
