Synopsis
Arthur Walkington Pink was an English Christian evangelist and biblical scholar who was known for his staunchly Calvinist and Puritan-like teachings in an era dominated by opposing theological traditions. Pink was one of the most influential evangelical authors in the second half of the twentieth century. Pink’s beliefs and teachings were largely Calvinist and Puritan based. No part of the Scriptures has been studied more widely than have the four Gospels. "Why four Gospels? It seems strange that such a question needs to be asked at this late date. The New Testament has now been in the hands of the Lord’s people for almost two thousand years, and yet, comparatively few seem to grasp the character and scope of its first four books. No part of the Scriptures has been studied more widely than have the four Gospels: innumerable sermons have been preached from them, and every two or three years sections from one of the Gospels is assigned as the course for study in our Sunday Schools. About the Author
A. W. Pink (1886–1952) was born in Nottingham, England, and became a Christian in his early twenties. Desiring to grow in knowledge of the Bible, Pink immigrated to the United States to study at Moody Bible Institute, in Chicago, Illinois. From 1925 to 1928, he served in Australia, before returning to England, and then to the United States the following year. He eventually pastored churches in Colorado, California, Kentucky, and South Carolina. In 1934, Pink returned to England and focused his Christian service on writing books and pamphlets. After his death, his works were republished by the Banner of Truth Trust and reached a much wider audience as a result. His writing sparked a revival of expository preaching and focused readers’ hearts on biblical living. His classic work The Sovereignty of God is also published by Whitaker House.
