During World War II thousands of young girls left home to work on training bases. They saw none of the horrors of combat, only home-front scars: fear and rumors, lovers and friends who marched away, some maimed, some never to return. Nineteen, unaware of her beauty, Louella Tolbert's only knowledge of men is one chaste kiss from Stith Bonham before he goes to war and she goes to work on Seacomb Army Air Base. If lovers are lucky, their lives change in parallel ways, but Louella and Stith would never be the same. Nor would America.
