Tain Bo Cuailnge, together with the critical notes and vocabulary, were originally published by the late Professor Strachan in 1903, in numbers 158 to 167 of I risleabhar na Gacdhilge. It was his intention, frustrated by his sudden lamented death, to re-edit them as a textbook for the School of I rish Learning. For this purpose Mrs. R. I. Best had prepared a copy, in which the vocabularies were arranged in alphabetical order at the end of the extracts. This copy was found among Strachan spapers, and handed to me by his widow for publication. It contained no corrections or additions, though, if he had lived to bring out this little book himself, Strachan would probably have normalised the spelling still further, and revised some of the notes and entries in the vocabulary. The whole is now printed without any alterations except in details. Mr. Best and Dr. Bergin have shared with me the task of seeing it through the press. KUNO MEYER LIVERPOOL, June i2th, iqo8.
