Desmond H. Bragg was born in Port Arthur, Texas, in 1919. He grew up in an orphanage in Beaumont, Texas, until he was sent to live with a foster family on a dairy farm near Kountze, Texas, at the age of fourteen. At the age of sixteen, Desmond dropped out of high school and left Texas for good on a freight train at midnight in the middle of The Great Depression. With fifty cents and a biscuit, he set off North to seek his fortune. That journey is a story of endurance and fortitude, which led him out of Texas through Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, Illinois, Wisconsin, and ended in Iowa. Along the way, Desmond studied to be a minister, received a doctorate in education from the University of Wisconsin, was a college professor at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, for twenty-five years, and became a marathon runner and a noted UFOlogist (having investigated UFOs for more than fifty years). After a tragic accident left him paralyzed and in a wheelchair, he went on to coauthor a comprehensive book on UFOs entitled Science Meets the UFO Enigma. Married to the love of his life for sixty years until her death in 2005, Desmond lives in Des Moines, Iowa, surrounded by his three children, five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He is still active in his pursuit of the truth behind the UFO evidence.
