Synopsis

Few medical specialties gather as many opinions as psychiatry. And few medical treatments within psychiatry draw so many frothing opinions as electroconvulsive therapy, or ECT. But is there truth to the stigmas? Dr. Sana Johnson-Quijada pulls back the curtain to explore the realities of ECT: what it is, how it works, and why it is a valid treatment option for people who are suffering.

À propos de l'auteur

Dr. Sana Johnson-Quijada is a practicing board certified psychiatrist, a lover of books, a mom, a wife, and a huge fan of Starbucks (as well as local California coffee houses like Maui Wowi Paradise Coffee or Cafe Bravo.) She is in private practice, specializing in outpatient clinics (in person or by tele-psychiatry, a developing area of remote psychiatry services using technology,) and ECT (electroconvulsive therapy). Dr. Q is also the medical director of the University and Magnolia Surgery Centers. She never gets tired of talking about becoming a friend to yourself. To this end, she blogs at http://friendtoyourself.com, where she hears and shares the concerns and perspectives of self-accountable people in the trenches.
