Jan Kelvin works as a journalist for the New York literary magazine Page. One morning, her editor gives her a tough assignment: Locate and interview Walter Randolph, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of the book The River Flows Back. The problem is that Randolph has not been seen by anyone for more than twenty years. Is he dead, missing, or hiding?
For Jan, it’s the beginning of a long, strange journey through Southern culture and behind the curtain of a nefarious world of drugs, murder, child abuse, and ghosts. Set against the beautiful backdrop of the Appalachian Mountains, every day her quest becomes more personal, dangerous, and haunted. How far will she go and what will she risk to find Walter?
