Author Mary Masters sets the tone with a prologue that recounts the bizarre events of the past twenty-five years involving Jason Torrent; a powerful, glowing golden mask; and the deaths of the sinister Thorn Mastema and his daughter, Sameal.
Now, Sheriff Chris Samuels has come to this small town because it appears to be the perfect place to raise his children and finish out his career in peace.

Masters resides in Westchester County, New York, with her husband and three cats.
