Synopsis

The fictional biography of Maurice Molar Dental Surgeon 1933-1980 “Darling, you will make a brilliant dentist! That was such a big prick….yet I never felt a thing!” Aptly named dentist Maurice Molar is a misfit. He is a six foot six, dope smoking, heavy drinking, Wagner loving, child hating, anti social, bearded gorilla of a man, who actually is very good at dentistry, but unfortunately has a problem about treating patients, children, people in authority, foreigners, and homosexuals. In short he is a loveable bigot, and very much a square peg in a round hole. Oh, and he’s also psychic. We follow Maurice’s career from dental school through National Service in the RAF, where he is posted to, ‘The arsehole of the world!’ It his here his life changes dramatically. Picking up the pieces his career continues in civvy street, until finally, he joins a dental practice run by fellow dental surgeon, Harry Badcock. Harry, much older than Maurice, is an Irishman, full of charisma. He could 'charm the birds from the sky', and then sell them back to God! These two rough diamonds make a remarkable team, much to the dismay of practice manager Audrey. Then, the unthinkable happens and Harry dies. After a heavy dope smoking session, Maurice finds to his horror that his old friend is still around and what’s more, he needs help getting to Heaven!

À propos de l'auteur

My name is Paul L Hedge and I am the author of "Open Wide Please!" The story is totally fictitious, using a background knowledge of over forty six years in dentistry. I've included a photograph of myself on the front cover. It was taken when I was as a very young dental hygienist in the 1960's and I have included this photo as a lot of the story is based around this time. The dental equipment is typical of this period. It is what I would call a 'black comedy'. Although the story is about a dental surgeon, I must stress that no knowledge of the subject is needed to enjoy the book.
