In 1932, more than 20,000 destitute World War One veterans -- many with families -- marched on Washington, DC, demanding payment of a "bonus" to reimburse them for wages they lost while fighting overseas. They encamped in Washington and refused to leave until paid. "The Bonus" tells the tale of Virgil Vance, a young man from the dusty Oklahoma panhandle who goes with his veteran father on an adventurous cross-country trip to Washington, where they find themselves encamped in the biggest "Hooverville" in the United States. Out of the misery, young Virgil falls for a girl from the southwest coal fields of West Virginia, who came with her veteran father. Their love grows slowly as the government begins losing its patience with the Bonus Expeditionary Force. The result is ironic, and tragic for the men who had valiantly fought for America a generation before.

Paperback. Etat : Good. The Currency of Love is a lyrical reckoning-a spiritual journey told in golden threads. This deeply poetic narrative weaves together sacred wisdom, personal awakening, and mystical imagery into a tapestry of hope, loss, surrender, and rediscovery. It invites readers to travel alongside the Traveler-a figure shaped by hardship and heartache, healed by presence and peace-as he crosses through fractured landscapes and finds meaning not in victory, but in yielding. With echoes of Emerson's reverence for nature, the narrative depth of Lewis, and the emotional honesty of Mary Oliver, The Currency of Love reminds us that life's meaning is not measured in milestones, but in motives. Every path matters not for where it leads, but for why we walk it-and for whom. This is not a book of quick fixes or easy answers. It is an unhurried walk through the deepest parts of the soul: where stillness replaces striving, and the love of God becomes the economy in which we live, move, and choose. Here, peace is not passive. It detonates. It radiates. It changes the molecular structure of memory and the way sunlight hits your face. It transforms lives not with applause, but with presence. With hands open. With wounds revealed. With service rendered when no one is watching.Written by Faith Andrews, this is the first offering from Open Hand Writing, a creative community committed to truth told gently. Her words are poetic, brave, often breathtaking-and at their best, quietly revolutionary.Perfect for lovers of spiritual memoir, creative nonfiction, or devotional reflection, The Currency of Love belongs in the hands of those who still believe that grace is not a relic of the past but the future's only hope.Let this book be a guide-not to success or spectacle, but to surrender. To the one place where transformation always begins: love. N° de réf. du vendeur 00110416671
