Bill Rhodes always wanted to be a writer. His career as a plant breeder/geneticist was a way to make a living, and once he retired from Clemson University as professor of horticulture, he found his favorite pastime was "writing about most everything" that interested him. After retirement, Bill returned to his home state of Arkansas, where he felt a comfortable familiarity with his surroundings and an obligation to all of those home folks whose values had sustained him all his life.
