In Driving toward Modernity, Jun Zhang ethnographically explores the entanglement between the rise of the automotive regime and emergence of the middle class in South China. Jun Zhang is Assistant Professor at City University of Hong Kong. She works on social transformations in China with two focuses: lived experienecs in the rapidly changing urban context in the contemporary, and the built environment and emerging spatial governance in the early twentieth century. Her work appears in Modern China, City and Society, and History and Technology.
