Synopsis

Colour Paperback Edition: Biography of a country boy, farm worker, coalman, soldier, parachutist, coal miner, long-distance lorry driver - husband and father of seven. My daughters and grandkids always love to hear the stories I tell them about things that have happened in my life - and I decided to write them down as a biography. This is not just my story – it’s the story of my life with Frances. At 18 she had joined the Woman’s Land Army (WLA), which bought her from Rotherham to Mortimer (Near Reading), where we met. We were married for over 60 years. The war that bought us together also parted us for a while. Just after WW2 officially ended, I was called up for National Service (aged 18). I was a soldier with the Berkshire Regiment (Lance Corporal then Full Corporal). I qualified as a parachutist with the Parachute Regiment. I served in Germany and Burma. I was recalled during the 1956 Suez Crisis - and parachuted into Port Said. I describe lots of individual events - some of them make quite grim reading - but everything I write about did happen. ********** This Book is also available as a Black and White Paperback, as well as in Kindle format. The kindle book has a comprehensive clickable index - both TOC and NCX - allowing for easy navigation. ********** Hope you enjoy reading this. I'll update the story when I reach 100! Ron Haynes
