The third edition of Aural Care is produced at a time when nurse led micro suction aural care clinics are the standard of care. Advanced Nurse Practitioners are now responsible for training Aural care nurses and supervising them. This guide describes the conditions treated, the criteria for training and the targets for the training of aural care nurses. It gives an example training program and advice on setting up and running a micro suction clinic. It provides the evidence-based guidelines for the management of wax. The Protocols for aural micro suction, removal of wax, treatment of otitis externa, care of mastoid cavities, furuncle treatment and removal of foreign body as well as administration of aural medications are provided. There are case studies to provide examples of prescribing for the ear and tables to be used for training.
