A Collection of Facts, Opinions and Utopias In the Form of an Eccentric and Philosophical Encyclopedia. The the facts in this book are hopefully correct. The opinions are the author's. The utopias are also the author's inventions. The word Utopia comes from the title of the 1516 fantasy by Sir Thomas More (1478-1535) of an imaginary island that enjoyed perfection in politics, law and society. The word is derived from classical Greek words meaning “nowhere”. It is usually used to describe some ideal society or the like. But there are many nowheres. Lilliput and Brobdignag in Gulliver’s Travels, are utopias although scarcely prime tourist destinations. In this work I describe a number of different nowheres that are interesting but perhaps not always ideal.

Hendon Chubb is an artist, a writer and a rug designer. His mezzotints are in the collections of The Mississippi Museum of Art, The Irbit Museum of Graphic Arts in Irbit, Russia and The American Consulate at Yekaterinburg, Russia His writing has appeared in the New York Times and The Los Angeles Times. He has translated Si Tu M’Aimes, Ne M’Aime Pas by Mony Elkaïm into English with the title If You Love Me, Don’t Love Me. In earlier careers he was an insurance executive and a clinical psychologist.
