Many have for long contended that science disapproves the existence of God. The current unprecedented levels of religious violence seem to further portray faith as a vice and not a virtue. The God-debate is slowly warming up even in deeply religious nations. Zambia is one such country that was one day awakened to this reality when an atheist medical practioner freely expressed his atheistic views on TV. This was too controversial for many viewers. Sadly, much of the clerical responses to the atheist’s arguments were mere rhetoric, lacking intellectual rigor. In “Why I Believe God Exists” Andrew admonishes Christians to give heed to the Biblical admonition to “be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear” (1 Peter 3:15). He defends the existence of God by responding to the following challenges often raised by atheists:•“Faith is evil as it has brought more harm to society – there would have never been 9/11, al Qaeda, or ISIS, had religion not existed”.•“Postulating God as the creator only raises the question of ‘Who created the creator?’ ”•“There is no scientific evidence for the existence of God”.•“How can a perfect God create an imperfect world filled with the evil of pain and suffering?”This book is intended to strengthen a believer’s faith and also present an opportunity to a person who may want to believe in God but finds his intellect stultifying him.

A.C. Phiri is pastor of Believers’ Assembly, a non-denominational church in Zambia, where Christians seeking in-depth Bible study, prayer and fellowship gather to worship. Andrew has spoken and taught in various meetings and conferences across Africa and overseas including Singapore, the Philippines, India, Cambodia, Namibia, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Mozambique. He takes keen interest in missionary work and helping the poor in rural villages of Africa. In noticing the lack of knowledge about the interface between faith and science, he has in the recent years concentrated on teaching this subject.
