Synopsis

IS THIS GUIDE FOR YOU? This is not a textbook, nor is it a review of the growing literature of in this field. In this guide, we focus on what we know, and clinical lifestyle intervention in an academic research setting (Duke University Medical Center) is what we know best. This is a book of tips, the margin notes from years of trial and error. Much of it will appear as common sense. You will find this book useful if you: - Recruit for lifestyle studies (or other studies) in an academic setting - Study or teach at a technical school or university with a clinical research curriculum - Recruit in clinics, small hospitals, or doctor’s offices, where health-care teams take care of study recruitment along with the main business of seeing patients

À propos de l'auteur

Leslie Kelly has been a recruiter for Clinical Trials at the Duke Center for Living for over 10 years. In this manual she has captured all of the caveats associated with recruitment, consent and all of the subsequent steps in taking a subject from the inquiring phase to study completion. An emphasis is rightly placed on the collaborative relationship between study participant and staff, and “putting people first” as the key to running a successful lifestyle trial. It is full of other keys to success. A Strong Record in Participant Enrollment is Critical to Make Success Possible Since 1999, clinical trials at the Duke Center for Living have randomized more than 1300 participants, on time and on target, with dropout rates that are consistently with in protocol limits. We have conducted more than 12 trials, primarily federally-funded, that have yielded over 80 scientific manuscripts. Effective recruitment has been instrumental in our ability to maintain this steady pace of inquiry, scientific discovery, and sharing of results.
