Gary Fletcher, Chief Executive, Forest Holidays Born in Staffordshire in the UK, Gary has a wide and varied background, ranging from sports and leisure, property development, franchising and UK tourism. Gary’s early ambition was to become a professional footballer. Indeed he credits his innate understanding of the power of team work, and turning disappointment into success with these early ambitions. After gaining a sports degree in 1986 he decided to widen his experience working his way around the world undertaking many and varied grounded roles; from bar work, coaching sports, office removals, painting and decorating, porter at a fruit and vegetable market, as well as playing semi pro soccer across a range of UK Clubs, and in Australia, he also coached Ipswich Town youngsters under the legendary Sir Bobby Robson. His varied work experience and being able to understand the power of team work, and how a business works from all points of view, equipped him well to transform many leisure & tourism businesses performance, to build his own property company and to develop Forest Holidays from small beginnings in 2004 to the successful holiday brand it has become today under his leadership. Gary lives in Staffordshire with his wife Claire and 3 daughters; Sammie, Ellie and Hanna, and is a passionate Derby County Football Club supporter.
