Synopsis

Elsewhere we might hear Nietzsche thundering about the need to sacrifice meaningless millions to the worthy few, but in his homage to Schopenhauer, made to personify Nietzsche’s own ideas about education in the most comprehensive sense, we see him starting from a different premise altogether, namely the singular marvel that is every human being, every one entirely unique, every one thrown together from such curiously multifarious ingredients into the single thing that he is, once and once only. (This is a complete translation of sections I–V, which actually deal with Schopenhauer, but not sections VI–VIII, which move on to other things. The current edition was last updated in early 2022.)
