Synopsis

Susan Taylor Propst's fifth applique book features a beautiful collection of bird portraits, each with a background that stands alone or combines with the other blocks to form a larger landscape. The pattern book includes full size applique patterns for 9 applique blocks, including bluebirds, ducks, geese, a hummingbird, owl, stellar jay, swift, and chaffinch. The applique patterns are suitable for any applique method. The stunning setting gives the appearance of looking at the landscape through a window. The border also features clamshells, which add dimension and charm to the quilt. Susan has developed instructions to make the clamshells quick and easy to stitch by hand or machine. Detailed instructions are included for piecing the borders.

À propos de l?auteur

I have always loved art and dabbled in other media through the years. I began quilting in 1987 and quickly found that fabric was the medium for me. At the time I was a computer software engineer and had minimal time to quilt, but found what time I could to quilt. In 1994, we moved to rural Colorado and I didn't know any other quilters. The opportunity came to teach quilting for community education, and I jumped at the chance. From that first class, we formed a small quilt group which met on a regular basis. In 1999, my family and I relocated to the United Kingdom. I enrolled in City & Guilds Patchwork and Quilting and began teaching classes in England. After four years of City & Guilds, I wasn't ready to stop learning and exploring, so I went on to earn a Higher National Certificate in Textiles. I enjoy teaching all levels of quilters. I particularly enjoy designing patterns, and have often designed patterns for the classes I have taught. When I design applique patterns, I like stylized realism and I particularly focus on the color. I make every attempt to design my patterns so that they are not difficult to stitch. Even when designs look complex, the pieces are reasonable for a relatively inexperienced appliquer. I'm excited about the publication of my quilting books, "Beautiful Blooms", "Another Season of Beautiful Blooms", "Nature's Beauty in Applique" with That Patchwork Place. I have recently released my "Birds North and South" book, available on Amazon. I plan to continue producing and publishing designs and will have a new book coming out soon. My family and I have now relocated back to Colorado and I still occasionally teach.
